A couple years ago, I began making lactation cookie mix in a jar to gift my clients.  They soon became very popular, and many people purchased the mixes from me.

We moved almost a year ago, and it was too hard to keep up with while moving.  I have continued to be asked when I will sell them again or if I can share my recipe.  I am too busy to make the jars anymore, so here is the much desired recipe to make your own lactation cookies in a jar!

My clients who have made these cookies have said they are incredibly delicious and help immensely with increasing their milk supply.  lactation-cookie-mixThe general consensus has been 1-3 cookies a day to help increase supply, but they are so delicious that many find that they are devouring more than 3 a day!

The key galactagogues, other wise known as the milk making ingredients, in this blend is the dark chocolate, oatmeal, flaxseed and brewer’s yeast.  These foods are known to help some women increase their supply.

These jars are great gifts for all nursing mamas and mamas to be.  Here is the recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1.5 cups rolled oats
  • 2 tablespoons flaxseed meal
  • 2 tablespoons brewer’s yeast

Directions: Using a quart sized mason jar, layer the ingredients in the order list above.  Include a card with your cookie mix with the following directions:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  In a large bowl, combine 1/2 cup melted butter, 1 egg, and 1 teaspoon vanilla.  Add the contents of the cookie jar to the bowl and mix well.  Place balls of dough on a greased cookie sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes.
